All about Ra..
Ra
noun, ancient Egyptian: deity of the Sun
At House Of Ra, sustainability runs through our being. Channelling from an ever burning creative fire and inspired by our rich cultural heritage, we passionately craft unique garments.
In ancient Egyptian mythology, Ra's tears, on hitting the land, morphed into honey bees. In a virtuous loop this rewarded devout followers of the Sun god, with liquid gold, recognising their sustained loyalty.
Bees, in harmony with the earths elements have mastered the art of collective biological consciousness. They chose our family back in 2018, when they settled in as peaceful free-riders within the very fibres of our walls (see pic). This was transformative for us, as within the process we became beekeepers. Today, the garden of Ra, houses over a quarter of a million bees! And this is how we came to be(e)gin!
At Ra, Bees inspired us in their ability to harness true diversity as experts in the arts of resourcing, re-using and re-cycling. Our ever-growing collection brings the Sun, the Bees and the elements to life. Infused with our diverse roots from Mauritius, the honey pot of the Indian ocean, we bring vibrancy, culture and meaning to fashion.
These indigenous roots are the fabric of our ethos. They remind us at Ra, to mindfully give back; to respect and to create new life from old. Our collections are small and every piece is unique. With a laser focus on recycled fabrics, we reduce waste by keeping textiles in circularity.
